Eleni Sakelaris is an award-winning artist and designer based in Athens, Greece. In her multidisciplinary career spanning over twenty years, she has created a personal aesthetic that pushes the boundaries between art and design. Ranging from meticulously intricate hand-drawn illustrations to bold minimalist logotypes, she thrives on building unique visual languages that are both delicate and iconic.
Having lived her formative years in Africa, including the Ivory Coast, Mali, Ghana and South Africa, her studies began in Greece at the AKTO College of Art and Design. Furthered studies at the London College of Fashion earned her a 1st class honours degree and a multimedia award for her experimental film ‘Blinded’, gaining the attention of Benetton’s communication and research centre, Fabrica, based in Italy. There, she discovered the blurred lines between fashion, art and design. During her first year, she participated in the Milano furniture fair with her 3 part installation ‘The Memory of Furniture’. Later, under the supervision of Jaime Hayon, she took on the role of Editor in Chief with the book ‘2398 gr - a book about food’ which was presented with the special edition of COLORS magazine and as part of Benettons’ worldwide campaign supported by WWF. In 2004 she returned to the London College of Fashion to mentor final-year students in a new department created for experimental projects that had been initiated after her graduation. A year later, in her final move to Greece, she worked as a graphic designer for the award-winning advertising agencies Karamella and Looking. In 2011 she moved on to create her studio based in the centre of Athens where she currently undertakes client-based graphic design work while also creating and selling her art using various mediums including typographic techniques, digital artworks and printmaking through linoleum carving. < Back to About |
